Summary
Corporate pork giants are trying to kill Proposition 12 — a law that helps small farmers compete fairly and treat animals humanely. This post exposes how Washington lobbyists and foreign-owned megacorps are spreading lies to crush independent farms while pretending to “save” them. Missouri’s family farmers deserve better than corporate feudalism.

Big Pork’s Lies Are Hurting Missouri Farmers and Rural America 💥
By Ricky Dana, Candidate for U.S. House – Missouri’s 4th District
Corporate lobbyists are spreading Big Pork’s Lies to crush fair markets, weaken Prop 12, and control family farm survival across rural Missouri.
Let’s be honest — this isn’t about bacon prices. It’s about power. For decades, global meat monopolies have twisted laws to protect profits, not people. Now they’re trying to gut Proposition 12 — a commonsense rule that simply says livestock deserve enough space to stand, lie down, and turn around.
Prop 12 was passed by voters who believe in humane farming and honest markets. But the same Washington lobbyists behind Big Pork’s Lies are fear-mongering again, claiming “skyrocketing prices” and “job losses.” In reality, pork prices in California rose just 6.6 percent after enforcement — a normal market adjustment. The rest is smoke blown by billion-dollar packers terrified of competition.
The real issue isn’t Prop 12 — it’s control. When a handful of corporations dictate everything from feed costs to slaughter schedules, small producers get squeezed. Between 1980 and 2022, the number of U.S. hog farms fell by over 70 percent. That’s not efficiency — that’s extinction by consolidation.
Missouri’s independent farmers know this story too well. Every time a local packing plant closes, another rural town loses its heartbeat. These hardworking families feed the nation — yet they’re forced to compete with foreign-owned giants like Smithfield (China’s WH Group) and JBS (Brazil) that manipulate markets and rewrite rules to keep profits offshore.
Big Pork’s Lies say they’re “protecting small farms.” The truth? Their so-called “farm protection bills” — the Save Our Bacon Act and the Food Security and Farm Protection Act — would strip states of their rights to set humane and safety standards. That’s not freedom. That’s corporate feudalism.
Nearly one-quarter of U.S. producers already meet Prop 12 standards, proving it’s workable and profitable. These are the innovators investing in better barns, fair wages, and long-term sustainability. They’re living proof that family farm survival is compatible with humane agriculture.
Rural Missouri stands on their side. From the Ozarks to the river counties, farmers are pushing back against monopoly rule. They want markets that reward quality, not cruelty — and policies that put people above profits.
We don’t need Congress to “fix” Prop 12. We need Congress to fix the rigged markets that let a few corporations dictate prices while family farmers scrape by. That means tougher antitrust laws, honest labeling, and fair-trade policies that protect American producers — not foreign conglomerates hiding behind lobbyists.
Every time a Missouri farmer wakes before sunrise to feed livestock the right way, they’re fighting a quiet revolution. They deserve a government that stands with them — not one that sells them out to Big Pork’s Lies.
Let’s bring integrity back to agriculture and keep Missouri’s family farms alive for the next generation. 🌾🇺🇸
